Well, fishing at Snipe Lake has been good the past few weeks. The ice is a nice 14 inches thick on the north east side of the lake however the drifting snow makes it difficult to drive onto the ice. The best access is from the Provincial Campgound and the best fishing has been no more than 100 yards from shore in about five feet of water.
The whitefish spawning period has pretty much ended for the year so they aren't hitting as hard as they were just after Christmas however there are still a few that are hitting a green or yellow Mepps lure.
The pike aren't hitting as hard as they will be in the spring time but you still get a few hits and they hit hard! Be prepared to have one of those monsters on the end of your line.
Perch are in abundance in this lake but mostly you will get little minnow like scrappers that have bigger eyes than stomachs. Every once in a while you will get a decent size perch between one and two pounds.
And last but not least there are burbot A.K.A lingcod and rumor has it that there are some huge ones in this lake! Have a look at the video in the video section to see just how slimy these things really are!
I will be heading back out to Snipe Lake in the next couple weeks and will keep you posted on what's moving and what's not!
