Sturgeon Lake update

I took a drive up to sturgeon this morning to have a look at the fishing conditions. The picture below is of Williamson Park boat launch which is where I've had most of my luck shore fishing. The ice is about 50 feet from shore so there's definatly room to cast. Over to the right of where the picture was taken I noticed the ice is quite a bit farther from shore however the water is shallower their. I had a run past the narrows only to notice the boat launch is still closed (if you drive about 200 yds further you will notice a small boat launch down a narrow road to your right which is a public launch, it's very sandy their so not good for large boats!). I degress. The ice is about 20 feet from shore at this point. I havn't made it to Goose Creek or the spillway at Sturgeon creek yet. Both of those tributaries are closed at this time however you can still legally fish into the lake from the shore of those creeks. Be sure you DO NOT cast into the tributaries as they are clsoed due to spawning for some time yet. I will be back out in the next couple days to have a look at the tributaries and will keep you posted.

well, I'm thinking I'd like to try the mouth of Sturgeon Creek in the lake side, I've had insane luck there in the past. Do you know a way to access the mouth of Goose Creek? I will be bringing both my fly rod and spin cast. You can get a licence from the website, it's a bit cheaper if you do it that way.

Hello Everyone,

I was out again last Sunday with the family and the fishing was awesome. The walleye?s were biting all over the lake with a lot of 16 inchers which was great fun for the kids. There were plenty of big fish to go around and saw some of them before they were to become the evening meal. The walleye?s were located in the narrows and were moving out to the main part of the lake. Fish were being caught at the point but a lot of smaller sizes between 14 to 16 inches. To the left of the point there were lots of fish being caught with decent sizes and there were walleye?s located at the island. Hope everyone is having a great summer so far and happy fishing!

Went fishing on sept 5, 09 walleyes couldn't keep them off the line ,only used two hooks for the whole day.Had another guy with me who hasn't fished walleye like that, he was amazed on the action. Caught only four jack that day, don't like them much anyway. also only fished in two areas. ...

So, to clarify, is there a decent boat launch (say for a 17 foot Legend) at the campsite ???

One more question for ya'all (new guys, eh ???) - when does Sturgeon Lake campsite start getting busy ???

I think that this year about 15 of us will be getting together from June 07th to 14th ??? Or we may do May 31st to June 07th - but last year it was so cold that it turned off the fishing, so I'm guessing the first dates would probably be chosen ???

Well Jim, there's a boat launch both at Williamson park and Youngs point (both provincial campgrounds) and they are both pretty nice and will easily handle a 17' boat. There is the other launch at the narrows however it's only good for a 12-14' boat, it's pretty sandy and doesn't have the concrete pads in the water. There also isn't a campground at that one. My recomendation is Youngs point, it does tend to get busy during the sumer though. Have a look at the lake information link at the top of the page, it should give you some info on it.

Thanx Admin (sorry - you haven't left us a name)... That's exactly what I needed to know... I think I'll give Sturgeon Lake a try for a few days while coming thru in the spring enroute to a more northern lake for my fishing week with my buddies...
