We all had a great summer of ’09 in our northern Alberta lakes. Some great examples are Sturgeon Lake, Snipe Lake and Swan Lake. It wasn’t uncommon for a small boat load of people to pull in literally hundreds of fish within a few hours at Sturgeon. At Snipe there were 20 lb pike and 8lb walleye being landed. At Swan Lake a 6-7lb rainbow seemed the norm….Just look at the pictures! Speaking of pictures, we are getting a nice collection of them so keep them coming! As you may have noticed, the website counter rolled over and above 10,000 as of the beginning of September and is still going strong. The website became operational in February 2009 so we are very happy to see those numbers. The NAA tournament last May was also a great success. We filled right up and the response since has been very positive. The big question I’ve heard from many people is when are we holding the next tournament? We’re actually in the works of addressing the issue. Rumor has it that there might be something on ice…..

As fall seems to be settling in quite nicely, maybe a bit early for some, the open water fishing season will be coming to an end within the next few weeks. The pike and walleye are heading back to the shores as we speak and if history holds true, the weeds and algae will finally die and the monster pike will be lingering within casting distance of shore looking for that one last snack before the ice covers the lake for the next seven months. The end of the open water season seems an unfortunate event for most but there are those few who tend to brave the cold and set out for a day of relaxation with large cup of hot coffee or hot chocolate and a sub sized fishing rod. But I tell you this…. If you have the right equipment there’s nothing more exciting than sitting inside a tent with the heater going chatting with a good friend about the fish you see taking nibbles at that piece of shrimp hanging off the end of a treble hook….I can’t wait!

I want to offer a huge thank you to all member’s of NAA for making this site a success. It’s been a great year thus far and I look forward to what’s to come! I wish everyone a great hard water season and I speak on behalf of everyone who visits this site when I say we all look forward to more stories, pictures and videos!
