I got all set up for it, but decided that I didn't want to be labeled a snobby elitist so I broke the rod in 3 more peices then threw it away..... Actually I dropped my trailer bed on it and hope to get another this summer.

Deon, I fished the narroway did well there, Havn't been to the torrens yet, but I hear its quite good. If you have a float tube, boat or something to get down a river the kakwa is an amazing fishery for grayling.

I am not really a numbers guy; but I am sure I caught more that you.... Don't forget about S%#$ Lake and the huge Rainbow Trout, I heard from my best friends, sister's cousins, her baby's momma, said that Shay Shay caught a 14 pounder. Fo' Show.... I am proud to be a Fly Fisherman.

I swing flies from time to time. Alberta holds some real gems for fishing, as long as you are willing to do some foot work and get back out where no one else has rarely gone.

I have kind of gave up on it since I came north, but there are good opportunities on the Wapiti for Grayling plus some decent lakes. Guess I should dust off the rod and reel again and give it another go soon.

What are you using for flys? Nymphs or dry flys? I always did good on the Crowsnest with a nymph, Hares ear if I remember correctly but I am getting old now lol.

Joe , the hares ear is still good, my best luck has been with wooly buggers, the grayling seem to like hopper patterns, Stoneflies are good, and I have been tying atractor streamers for bulls and pike, Clousers and conehead, I also have a buddy that loves the matuka type fly and constantly out fished me last year, I really do think it was the fly. lol. I am open to fish with anyone that wants to go. espesially if you have a nice boat.

My boat is decent, for a river boat. Hopefully things aren't to crazy this summer and I can get out a little more to do some fishing on the river.

Tatonka is right (jees I hate to say that) Dries & Nymphs for the Grayling. They love bugs. I prefer Dries, as i like to see them come up and snatch it. They aren't usually fussy. Very rarely do you really need to match the hatch. Sizes 14-8 should be good. Bulls like their meals supersized. Streamers fished near the bottom are your best bet. Sizes 6-2/0 w/long shanks. NO BAIT please. Not legal on our rivers. Also very hard to release after as they usually swallow it down deep. If you didn't know it takes at least 7 yrs. for a Bull Trout to grow up and think about love. Bulls in our area only spawn every other year. I would like to see that junior angler standing beside you in your pic be able to take his junior angler out fishin' on the river some day.

i fished brown mayfly floaters all last year on the Kakwa...pretty good grayling action...I put on a stupid looking blue silver nymphe and cought a big bully...as far as "match the hatch"...uh what is the hatch when does it happen...we need to know.dot.dot.dot.period.... if its a cliche im gonna bet its gonna work?!?!?!

Member Posts: 70 | I actually don't "match the hatch" Ninja, you will see on the water if a hatch is forming and what bugs they are. Also if you get hard core into trout fishing stomache pumps for what they are eating is common. I tend to fish actractor paterns and do pretty well.
