Anyone set a goal(s) at the start of a season for fishing? I alway have for hunting, and blame that on not shooting anything at the end of the year because it wasn't big enough.... But fishing goals are easier obtained if you stay away from weight.
Last year I dcided that I wanted to fish twenty different bodies of water, catch a perch (it had been years) and add at least one of the 17 listed sport fish of alberta that I have not caught
Ended up not reaching 20 (16), found perch, and added a Brown and a Cutthroat trout to the list (for 11 of 17).
This year I'm pretty sure I'll manage the 20, I hope to catch my first Lake Trout and added a few specific lakes to my list that I've never been (Boot, Sawn, Haig, Charlie).
I'm sure I'll think of more but that should get me started......Can't wait for the ice to melt!

One of my goals is to get a fish of good size on the wapiti. Also a large pike on the fly rod

My goals are to continue where I left of last fall. Kickin' 'round here. Fishing some of the lakes like Swan (this friday for sure), Spring, Moonshine, Two Lake of course and even spend a couple of evenings out at Kakut Pond (I will be out there on June 25 to give a flycasting demonstration). When the stream season opens I will probably hit the running water and try and educate the grayling & bulls. A week camping at Pierre Gray Lakes with my grandkid in July and hopefully some time in Maryland in August (Trout fishing is done like dinner down there by that time of year but I am looking forward to some Bass busting). Back on the streams for September & October with a couple of trips to Swan or One Island fit in there somewhere. Not very ambitious, but quite enough for an old guy.

well my plan for the year is to catch a lake trout on the fly, and pound as much water with a fly rod as possible.:D

Member Posts: 31 | 10lb.+ Walleye is the main goal for me this year. I've bagged 2 9lb. which is just painfully close. Other then that I might set a Walley count for 2010 of 150 and I really want to catch some ling.

Well, I'd like to hit up some limited access lakes like goose and long lake. I want to give river fishing a good shot this year, I don't know why I don't fish them since they're so close to me! I'd like to catch a few more ling as well.

Love the fishing website but I would have to be a fool to start splashing that kind of info about. 2 clues though. 1: I fish the rivers mainly. 2: Its amazing that we have such great fishing so close to home.

Gotchya, you going to be at the Poker Ralleye in May? Might have to bring a case or two and get some hot tips, not specific spots..

100+ Boats, 5 stops I believe. Supper at the Rat Shack and if you stay there is usually a band. Good times had by all, too much good times had by some.

Which long lake are you going to? The one south of GP has lots of small rainbows, bring a small boat as it was better on the other side of the lake. Someone had left a containment tub down there last time we were there that seemed to work fine. Hard to paddle though!

Totally hear you on the daughter thing. My oldest is 4 and I can't wait for her to catch her first fish. I've already got her Princess Rod rigged with 8lb. Fireline and rope to secure it to the boat. Its gonna be sweat, hopfully I'll get it on video.
