When I was a kid I remeber pike fishing being pretty decent, allot of fair size ones. but it seem latley that there are allot of tinny ones and thats it. Does any one know of a good place for some decent pike around gp?

I've never fished the GP area.  If you ever come farther north let me know.  I'll put you on to big pike.  Good chances of 40+ inches .

Try Sturgeon.  You will be surprised.  Spring/summer if pitching spoons will be small fish generally.  Change to swim baits and large cranks just off structure and you will be surprised.

Tim, I stopped at Sturgeon on my way back from Edmonton. There was only about 50 to 100 ft. of open water but had a nice little 3.5 lb. chase my spinner on the first cast and had a nice 4.5 lb. slam my red devil shortly later. I want to nail a big pike too and just after ice off is the time, You can jump on my boat.

Snipe in the spring with a fly rod is always fun. Best day last year was 2 over 20 pounds on Dalberg Divers. I make a trip to Talbot Lake near Jasper every year to throw the large flies and always catch a number of fish between 5 and 20 pounds

T, if you have the time for a trip shaw point at slave lake offers some great wading in for pike. Thats where I caught my first pike on the fly, using a clouser. Thankfully it was just a 3-4 lbs fish, I was only using my 6wt. That is fixed for this pike season, I got a nice 9wt for spring pike. and some flies that I am sure will catch some nice fish. I too am fishing out of my pontoon boat most of the time, unless some really nice person invites me to fish on their boat. Snipe lake is the best chance for big pike. I know everyone knows this but let the really big ones go, they carry more eggs and have the best potential for growing big. Thats the only preachy thing I say.

Got the 9 wt ready / rabbit hair flies / good to go for early June at North Wabasca Lake !!!  Being used to salmon fighting at 200+ feet down, it is so much fun to see a 100 foot run sideways in 4 feet of water that those pike give ya !!!  I can hardly wait (as if you couldn't tell) !!!

come into wholesale sports in GP T. Aron will be able to get you set up with a nice 8 or 9 wt that isnt too expensive. there are some not bad Amundson packages that come with every thing you need but flies. check it out, its a great starter kit to get you on the way to catching a pike on the fly

blindman river in central alberta is awsome for small pike its a very slow moving river about 20 feet wide and theres pike up to 8 pounds in there. Blindman river beside bentley is more productive we counted 29 pike some topping lower 8 pounds on mouse flys
