Popped in last night to fish from shore, The docks are in at Youngs Point. I cought a few pike with one being a decent size. I spoke with a few guys and they said they can't keep the pike off. Spring fishing is officially here!

Went to Sturgeon Wednesday and today, mostly jack, a few walleye and my first Burbot.  Surprised the heck out of me!

Real windy today, had the best luck by sandy bay but the trip home was brutal.

What were you using from the dock? I was just off to the right of the dock and all I caught was a cold! I think I needed to be a little further out.

Eating the Burbot as I type this, good lord they are good!  I highly recomend "Uncle Bucks Hot + Spicy" from Bass Pro.

How do you target these fish not by accident? I'm going to need another!

Letting your jig sit and wait or deadlining with bait works the best in the rivers up here.  Use the smelliest bait you can find and they'll pick up on the scent.  Did you cut out the strip of meat that runs down the spine along the ribs.  It akes a bit of time to cut out, but is the best part of the fish.  Pretty much a fish tenderloin.  If you can hit a river try deep holes or confluences.  The big ones will be hanging out while the walleye are spawning.

I just hammered them last week on the Peace.  There were a stupid amount of Burbot there.  I've never caught that many in that short amount of time before.

Was out at Sturgeon today. No action around the Young Point's dock but lots of action in the middle of the Narrows. We hauled in about 20 in total. One very nice pike and 3 nice Walleye. Remainder would have been on the smaller size.

Went to Sturgeon again today with the wife and kids, fishing was pretty good.  Lost a couple big jack at the boat that I have blamed on my net being to small...

A few decent  Walleye as well, good day!

White + pink was the colour of the day for us, red + yellow came in second

Braved the wind again yesterday, my face feels like an old cowboy boot.  Weather calmed down a bit by 9 or so for a nice end to the evening, it was jackfish city yesterday.

Any one see the fire roaring to the south of the lake?  Almost looked like it was out by swan.

Camping out there this weekend, should get lots of fishing in regardless of the weather.

hey guys i was out on sturgeon between 7 and 10 on saturday night, and we were just hammering the walleye. we only caught 1 that was under the size limit out of 30 or so, and it was only 1 cm under. we decided to troll back to the dock and all of a sudden boom! fish on! i knew this one was much better than the rest of them, it felt like it had some weight. after a quick little 5 minute fight my buddy netted my 8 pound 58 cm walleye. i was so excited, this being my first time out there this year... hope to see you guys out there this year.

Thats Wicked. I didn't even believe there were walleye that big in Sturgeon. I'm just learning how to fish the lakes. What do you find works best out there? I hear a tipped jig is fool proof but does anyone have any luck with Dead Bait Rigs or SlowD fishing? One other question: Is night fishing any good and do the walleye actually come in to the shallow's?

A 58 cm walleye on Sturgeon is a reasonably common catch as there is a large year class of such fish.  Almost all such fish are females.  Your estimation of size is a little off however.  The fish would likely push the scales close to 4 pounds.  In the early 90's we tagged over 2000 walleye on Sturgeon with the largest being 64 cm and slightly over 5 pounds and it was a ripe female.  My largest walleye on Sturgeon after over 30 years of fishing was in 2009 and was a 68 cm fish.  Good luck fishing.  There are many good tables you can use to estimate the weight of fish accurately.  Another interesting fact is that the walleye on Sturgeon do weigh slightly more than there counter parts in lakes such as Lesser Slave.

Or you could use a weigh scale. Most walleye weight estimator's use only length not girth, which is rediculous because I've seen some fat walleye and some really skinny walleye.
